Thank you for being here and enjoying my weekly posts - happy to have a virtual coffee with me if you’d like to invite me to talk further on lipstick leadership. Lipstick leadership focuses on ‘the future is feminine’ and supporting, empowering, and inspiring others. It’s about today and creating a great future for all of us paid or non-paid.
Summer Fridays with my blog should be a time where there is light reading for some fun topics. What is your favorite thing to do?

Summer is here finally – the longest day is upon us! Summer also means that we spend more time outside with friends and family. Reading might not be your top priority or the contrary. Hence blogs in the summer months will be on the lighter side. This does not mean that there is no relevant content. I am a constant content creator #contentcreator.
What is on your reading list now? I allow myself to read a book a month not to overwhelm me. For sure, there are months where I read more than others. Also, it depends on the content and the length of the book.
Most recently, I have been exposed to my alma mater Marymount Manhattan College in New York’s book club. And why?
What I have enjoyed with this book club is that the leader of the group summarizes the books with fitting elements from the book. But additionally, she has been adding other historical or additional fun facts to open up a lively discussion. This has been the first time for me to join a book club. And to share the secret why I have joined these ladies is that my book “50 Shades of Lipstick Leadership” will be read and discussed in the month of September. This is a great honor since my book will follow Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I feel like an imposter to say the least!! Helen Clarke Molanphy decided not to be part of the book club when discussing her book out of fear someone would say something negative! I will be there and enjoy the animated and bubbly feedback from the group. After all, my book should be an uplifting read depicting stories from my podcast “Take it from the Ironwoman.”
My list so far:
Between You and Me, A confession of a Comma Queen, Mary Norris – a fun read but then it makes me wonder if it’s between you and me or you and I? What is correct? “Now she [Mary] brings her vast experience, good cheer, and finely sharpened pencils to help the rest of us in a boisterous language book as full of life as it is of practical advice.”
The Mountains Sing, Nguyen Phan Que Mai – a novel of a family in Vietnam. This was eye-opening to learn about daily life during the Vietnam War. “… multigenerational tale of the Trần family, set against the backdrop of the Việt Nam War.”
Leaving Lissadell, Helen Clarke Molanphy – a fellow alumni author. The book became more alive when discussed in the book club. A historical novel: “Constance Gore-Booth Markiewicz, renowned for her dedication to Irish independence and for the restructuring of Irish society along egalitarian lines.”
The Frozen River, Ariel Lawhon, again a pick from Marymount Manhattan book club. A historical fiction: “A gripping historical mystery inspired by the life and diary of Martha Ballard, a renowned 18th-century midwife who defied the legal system and wrote herself into American history. Maine, 1789.”
What are your recommendations? Remember when my friend Libby posted a book every day last year? I miss her amazing library that she shared.
Ps: thanks for liking, subscribing, and writing a review for either the book or the podcast. Any lift helps! I highly appreciate your support.
